Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips took part in a community outreach in Laluni, a farming community along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway. As part of government’s “mission of listening” to residents in communities all across Guyana, the Prime Minister noted that these interactions are vital for discussing ongoing development initiatives, understanding challenges, and delivering impactful solutions.

Residents had the opportunity to voice their concerns and offer suggestions on matters including education, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure.

Several immediate interventions were announced in response to these concerns. Among them were the provision of a new bus to transport primary school children and support from the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) to assist farmers with drainage and irrigation challenges.

The Prime Minister revealed that the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) will soon connect Laluni to the national grid. Additionally, rehabilitation works totalling $16m are planned for the community’s primary school and Health Centre in 2025.

In a broader development outlook, the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) will undertake the drilling of a well and establish a water treatment and distribution system for Laluni as part of the next five-year development cycle. Moreover, a new school project will also be included in the forthcoming development plan.

It was noted that the outreach underscores the Government’s dedication to ensuring equitable development and addressing the specific needs of communities across the country. Prime Minister Phillips was joined by the Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, and Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Public Affairs, Kwame McCoy.
