The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) and the Working People’s Alliance (WPA) have confirmed their partnership ahead of the 2025 elections.

According to a release, both parties stated that their engagements continue to be productive as they discuss ongoing collaboration and shared objectives for the upcoming electoral cycle.

“Both parties reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to coalition politics, recognising its essential role in promoting democratic values and ensuring representation for all citizens of Guyana,” the release stated.

The parties pledged to work cooperatively and strategically to mobilise support across the electorate. Their respective leaders underscored the “…necessity of uniting forces to effectively challenge the incumbent People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government in the next elections, highlighting the importance of presenting a coherent and unified platform that resonates with the electorate.”

They also agreed to continue engaging with their constituencies, holding discussions to strengthen their partnership in preparation for the elections. Emphasising the importance of transparency, dialogue, and grassroots involvement, the parties said these elements would be central to their campaign strategies moving forward.

Reaffirming their mission to enhance governance in Guyana, they stated their commitment to “…ensuring accountability and fostering an inclusive environment…”

Attending the meeting were PNCR Leader Aubrey Norton, Chairman Shurwayne Holder MP, General Secretary Sherwin Benjamin, and WPA Co-Leaders Dr David Hinds, Tacuma Ogunseye, and Rohit Kanhai, along with Chairman Deon Abrams.

The PNCR and WPA are among the larger parties within A Partnership for National Unity (APNU). When the coalition was initially formed in 2011, it had the support of 10 small parties. In partnership with the Alliance for Change (AFC), APNU won the 2015 general elections but later lost in 2020.

While it remains unclear how many parties will comprise APNU in the 2025 polls, APNU and the AFC have set a 31 March deadline to announce whether they will contest the November elections together or separately.
