Guyana’s growing energy sector is set to take centre stage at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) 2025, with more than 12 local organisations joining the national delegation for this key international event. The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) is encouraging local businesses to leverage the opportunities the conference presents for networking, strategic partnerships, and market expansion.

At a press briefing hosted at the GCCI Secretariat on Friday, the Chamber, alongside the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Guyana Office for Investment, outlined how businesses can benefit from OTC 2025.

Scheduled for 5-8 May in Houston, Texas, the conference is a prominent platform for the global energy sector, offering unparalleled access to industry leaders, decision-makers, and cutting-edge technologies.

GCCI President Kester Hutson emphasised the importance of OTC 2025 for Guyana’s private sector.

“This annual trade mission is a crucial opportunity for Guyana to showcase its growing energy sector. Outbound trade missions like this are essential, as the private sector is the backbone of national economic growth,” Hutson stated.

GCCI Senior Vice President and Chair of the Petroleum Committee, Kathy Smith, reinforced the Chamber’s commitment to enhancing business opportunities for its members.

“OTC provides more than just access to the energy sector. It’s a chance to engage with international organisations, gain industry insights, and build long-term partnerships that can drive business growth,” she explained.

Smith noted that every year, businesses return from OTC with valuable connections that help expand their operations.

GCCI Executive Member Richard Rambarran highlighted the critical role of public-private collaboration in advancing Guyana’s energy sector.

“The ongoing partnership between the private sector, business support organisations, and the Government of Guyana is a testament to the strength of public-private cooperation,” Rambarran said.

He announced that 12 organisations have already registered for OTC 2025 and encouraged non-member companies to take advantage of the opportunity to join the delegation, with a complimentary one-year GCCI membership for those signing up before May.

Senior Investment Officer at GO-Invest, John Edghill, emphasised the strategic value of Guyana’s participation in OTC.

“OTC helps position Guyana as a competitive player in the oil and gas sector,” Edghill said, adding that, “The conference provides a unique opportunity for businesses to showcase Guyana’s investment potential and attract global interest.”

Senior Petroleum Coordinator at the Ministry of Natural Resources, Dr. Gopnauth Bobby Gossai, expressed his support for the initiative, underscoring the significance of Guyana’s presence at OTC 2025 as the country continues to advance in offshore development.

“OTC is more than just a conference; it’s an investment in the future of our energy sector,” Gossai said. “It’s an opportunity for businesses to open doors to new markets and expand their reach.”

Corporate partners supporting GCCI’s participation in OTC 2025, Brava Solutions and Blue Water Shipping Guyana Incorporated, also highlighted the event’s importance for Guyana’s business community. General Manager of Brava Solutions, Hilton Wong, noted, “Our long-standing support for OTC reflects our commitment to Guyana’s growing role in the global energy sector.” Senior Vice President of Sales and Development at Blue Water Shipping Guyana Inc., Richard DeNobrega, echoed similar sentiments, emphasising the event’s importance in showcasing Guyana’s readiness for continued economic expansion.

As preparations ramp up for OTC 2025, GCCI urges local businesses to seize the chance to engage with global industry leaders, forge strategic alliances, and position themselves for growth in the ever-expanding energy market. With a strong delegation and solid support from key stakeholders, OTC 2025 is poised to be a game-changing event for Guyana’s business community.
