The Natural Resources Ministry is set to officially launch the Local Content (LC) App, designed to facilitate the integration of local companies into the lucrative oil and gas sector, at this year’s Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo.
This was revealed by Stakeholder Coordinator at the Natural Resources Ministry, Mikaila Prince, during an interlude at the opening of the conference.
Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, will officially launch the app, which is already available for download on the Play Store and Apple Store.
Prince explained that the LC App aims to streamline procurement and employment opportunities, ensuring that local companies receive real-time updates on the demands of major oil and gas firms and supply agencies.
She noted that businesses using the app will have direct access to contractors. If a foreign company posts a Request for Information (RFI), interested local firms can email them directly to obtain the necessary details.
This level of connectivity is of paramount importance, said Prince, noting that in the past, local companies seeking additional information or answers to simple queries often faced delays. With the LC App, they now have a more efficient way to communicate with vendors and access information to ensure timely service delivery.”
Over 1,000 Guyanese companies are currently registered with the Local Content Secretariat. According to Prince, the LC Register serves as a stamp of approval for foreign companies, providing a verified pool of local businesses that meet specific standards and qualifications to offer services.
Last year alone, foreign oil and gas companies spent approximately US$700 million on services from local businesses—a significant sum that would have otherwise gone to companies outside of Guyana. Prince emphasised that this underscores the importance of prioritising the Local Content agenda.
