The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) has hailed the resilience and determination of the Guyanese people as the nation celebrates its 55th anniversary as a Republic.

In its Republic Day message, the PNCR emphasised the unwavering spirit that has guided the country through challenges and triumphs.

The party also reflected on the significance of the number 55, describing it as a symbol of transformation and growth—values that continue to shape the country’s future.

The statement paid tribute to former Prime Minister Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham, under whose leadership Guyana became a Republic on February 23, 1970.

“It was a bold declaration that we were ready to chart our own course, build our own economy, and ensure equality and equity in the distribution of the vast wealth of this, our Motherland.”

The PNCR acknowledged the economic and political challenges Guyana has faced since attaining Republican status but affirmed that the nation has remained steadfast in its commitment to progress and sovereignty.
