Police are investigating the death of 40-year-old Abdool Sharaf Rahim, of Section B Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD), who died following an accident on the Walkers Delight Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD) in the early hours of Monday morning.
Rahim was reportedly struck by motorcar PVV 2663, which was being driven by 43-year-old Ashley Raymond, of Uitvlugt, at approximately 00:10 hrs.
According to the police, Rahim’s wife, 32-year-old Sonia Ramlochan, of Cummings Lodge, told investigators that at the time of the accident, he was trying to get his car keys from her, but she refused, as he was under the influence of alcohol.
He then became annoyed with her and walked across the road, standing in the path of the vehicle while raising his hands in the air.
The area was reportedly dark, and the driver alleged that due to the close distance, the right side front of the car collided with Rahim, causing him to be flung into the air and onto the windscreen.
Rahim reportedly then rolled off the car’s bonnet and ended up on the roadway.
He was picked up by an ambulance and transported to West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor, who pronounced him dead on arrival.
The body is at Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination, as investigations continue.
Also on Monday, Adrian Inshan, the pillion rider in a tragic accident on the Corentyne Public Road, succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at New Amsterdam Hospital.
Keishan Ramnauth and Ameer Subhan had earlier died in the accident, which involved a collision between two motorcycles.
