Gafoor appointed chairperson of Bankers Association

Scotiabank Guyana’s Country Manager, Nafeeza Gafoor, has been appointed Chairperson of the Guyana Association of Bankers. Gafoor, who brings a wealth of experience to the role, was appointed on 26 February during the Association’s Annual General Meeting. With an extensive background in the commercial banking industry, she previously held the position of Vice Chairman of the Association.

Demerara Bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Dowlat Parbhu, has been appointed Vice Chairman, while Shawn Gurcharran, Chief Executive Officer of Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited, has been named Treasurer.

Parbhu has been a member of the Demerara Bank team for some 15 years, serving in senior roles within the company’s credit department. Gurcharran, meanwhile, brings approximately 15 years of progressive experience in the finance industry, with expertise in investments, commercial credit, and treasury management.

The newly appointed executives will serve for the 2025-2027 term.

The Guyana Association of Bankers has reaffirmed its commitment to improving banking practices and providing constructive representation, advocacy, and guidance for the local financial sector. As a non-profit organisation, it seeks to enhance the banking industry for all stakeholders, with a strong focus on increasing public awareness of financial services.
