Energy services company Schlumberger (SLB) is expanding its footprint in Guyana beyond oil and gas, investing in education, conservation, and workforce development as the country experiences rapid economic growth.
In 2024, SLB partnered with the Protected Areas Commission (PAC) to support wildlife rehabilitation at the Guyana Zoological Park, contributing G$4.2 million to refurbish enclosures for species such as the red-footed tortoise and the Jabiru stork.
The funding aims to enhance care for rescued wildlife while improving educational resources for local schools.
“SLB is deeply committed to the people of Guyana,” Communications Specialist Jasmine Payne told Ignite News, adding that “Our focus is on long-term, sustainable impacts that benefit communities.”
The company has also launched scholarships for Guyanese students in engineering and environmental sciences, part of a broader effort to build a skilled workforce.
It has also supported the development of training centres to equip workers with the expertise needed for jobs in the country’s expanding oil and gas sector.
Guyana, which has become one of the world’s fastest-growing economies following major offshore oil discoveries, is working to ensure locals benefit from the industry’s growth.
SLB’s investments align with government efforts to strengthen education and employment opportunities.
“This is more than just business for us,” Payne said. “It’s about giving back and supporting sustainable development,” she underscored.
SLB, which operates globally, has been increasing its presence in Guyana as part of a broader expansion in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The company recently participated in the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo and utilised the services of leading local branding and marketing company, Impressions.
