An intelligence-led police operation on Thursday by ranks from Special Branch Headquarters at the Laparkan Wharf resulted in the discovery of 10.55 lb (4.79 kg) of marijuana.

According to a police report, the ranks went to the Laparkan Shipping Company’s wharf, located at Lombard and Broad Street, Charlestown, where a search was conducted on a blue jumbo barrel that was sealed and shipped from one Junior Skeet of Brooklyn, NY, USA, to Clive James of Durban Street, Lodge.

The search was conducted in the presence of a 32-year-old customs officer.

During the search, nine sealed transparent plastic bags labelled California TRACKSTR containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis were found among clothing and sneakers.

The barrel, along with the suspected cannabis, was taken to the Crime Laboratory at CID Headquarters, where it was processed and photographed.

It was then weighed, amounting to 10.55 lb (4.79 kg). The suspected narcotic was subsequently placed into separate evidence bags, sealed, marked, and lodged at the Ruimveldt Police Station to be taken to the Forensic Laboratory for analysis.

The barrel containing the clothing was lodged at the Ruimveldt Police Station for safekeeping. Checks are currently being made for Clive James as investigations continue.
