“Put Guyana on your radar,” President Dr Irfaan Ali told investors and executives last Tuesday at the CERAWeek by S&P Global energy conference in Houston, US.

“Our story in Guyana is much larger than oil and gas,” the President was quoted as saying by Upstream. He added: “Oil and gas is a catalyst for many other opportunities for development in the country. I want you to put Guyana on your radar.”

Ali highlighted that several more oil blocks would be put up for auction, while the government is also exploring intergovernmental partnerships and the various benefits arising from the industry.

However, he emphasised that Guyana’s wealth of natural resources extends beyond oil and gas, presenting a range of investment prospects. He pointed to tourism as a key sector with immense potential and encouraged businesses looking to diversify to consider Guyana as a prime destination.

Thanks to ExxonMobil’s prolific offshore Stabroek block, Guyana’s oil production has surged over the past decade, positioning the country as a rising star in the global energy sector.

President Ali has welcomed this rapid growth, recognising it as a major economic boon for the nation. The thriving oil industry has not only benefited Guyana but has also proven highly profitable for Stabroek operator ExxonMobil and its partners, Hess and CNOOC International.
