Prank call forces evacuation of NIS Camp Street office

The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) has warned the public against making prank calls to its emergency numbers following a false bomb threat at the National Insurance Scheme’s (NIS) Lot 6 Camp Street location this morning.
During a visit to the location, Ignite News was informed that the agency was forced to evacuate its staff after a “threat” was made against the facility. Emergency services responded to the scene, but it was later determined that the bomb threat was bogus.
In a public statement, the GFS issued a stern warning to the public to refrain from making prank calls to the emergency number 912.
“We received a number of calls reporting that schools and public offices were on fire, but upon arrival, fire crews found no incidents of fire at those locations,” the fire service stated.
It added that prank calls are not only dangerous because they waste valuable resources and time, but they also make firefighters unavailable for legitimate emergencies where lives and property may be at risk.
The Guyana Fire Service condemned the act of making such prank calls as malicious and warned against it.
