The main contingent of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) arrived today in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to support rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.

The deployment follows a commitment by President Dr Irfaan Ali to provide assistance to the Caribbean nation, which sustained significant damage across several communities.

A statement from the GDF said that a delegation, led by Colonel Administration and Quartering, Commander Roger Nurse, was sent to the Island to conduct a damage assessment and coordinate with local officials in planning the humanitarian operation.

The team will focus on priority areas for assistance and contribute to the rebuilding efforts on Union Island.

The GDF emphasised that its involvement underscores Guyana’s commitment to regional solidarity and its dedication to supporting CARICOM sister states in times of humanitarian crisis.

“This initiative highlights the importance of regional cooperation in disaster response and recovery, as CARICOM continues to work together to build resilience and support affected communities,” the GDF statement said.
