Tauren McLeanon, a two-year-old child from Kwakwani Waterfront, reportedly drowned on Wednesday in the Upper Berbice River.
According to a police report, Tamika Joaquin, 39, a housewife of Kwakwani Waterfront, Upper Berbice River, and mother of the child, stated that the child went to the river shortly after 15:00 hrs on Wednesday afternoon to bathe and subsequently disappeared. The matter was later reported to the police.
A search was carried out in the river by residents, and Tauren’s lifeless body was recovered. The body was taken to the Kwakwani Hospital, where it was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. The body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Further investigations are ongoing.
