A desktop computer, backup battery, and water pump were stolen from the Ministry of Labour’s New Amsterdam office during a break and enter that is now under investigation by detectives in the division.
According to police, the incident occurred sometime between 15:30hrs on April 22 and 07:30hrs on April 23, 2025, at the Ministry’s two-storey concrete building located at Lot 228 Grant Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Police said the building, which is secured by wooden doors with external locks and internally fastened glass windows, was left locked by a 52-year-old cleaner who is responsible for securing the premises. Upon returning the following morning, she discovered the western door and a window open and raised an alarm.
Ranks visited the scene and confirmed the three items were missing. The surrounding area was canvassed for surveillance footage, and investigators are currently reviewing recordings from a nearby CCTV camera.
The investigation is ongoing.
