A joint operation between the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) on Wednesday led to the discovery of 16.4 kilograms of foreign cannabis concealed in two barrels at the Laparkan Cargo Shed, Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).

The barrels, which arrived from the United States of America, were searched following intelligence received by the agencies. Several transparent parcels containing cannabis were uncovered and transported to CANU Headquarters for further processing.

In a follow-up operation the same day, CANU ranks searched a residence at Lot XX6 North East La Penitence, Georgetown. There, officers discovered a black garbage bag containing foreign zip-lock bags, small plastic containers typically used for cannabis packaging, and rolling paper.

Two persons were taken into custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
