Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy (GtE) project has received the prestigious Deal of the Year Award from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (US EXIM), marking a major achievement in the government’s push to transform the national energy sector.

The award was accepted on behalf of the government by Senior Minister within the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh, who represented President Dr. Irfaan Ali at US EXIM’s 2025 Annual Conference in Washington, DC.

In his remarks at the ceremony, Dr. Singh described the project as “truly transformative,” highlighting its potential to double Guyana’s electricity generation capacity and reduce electricity tariffs by 50 per cent. He emphasised the economic benefits this would bring, particularly for households and businesses that rely heavily on electricity.

The award, Dr. Singh said, is deeply valued by the Government and people of Guyana, and stands as “a fitting testimony to the enduring and growing strength of the relationship between the United States of America and Guyana.”

The GtE initiative is the first project undertaken by Guyana in partnership with the US EXIM Bank. Dr. Singh also signalled the government’s interest in further collaboration with the Bank on critical infrastructure and development projects, including port security, trade enhancement, and food security – a key priority for Guyana and the wider Caribbean region.

The Gas-to-Energy project is expected to play a pivotal role in Guyana’s energy transition and broader economic development strategy.
