Former Georgetown Mayor, Pandit Ubraj NarineMinister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar, has filed a $60 million defamation lawsuit against former Georgetown Mayor, Pandit Ubraj Narine, over a Facebook post alleging a business relationship between the minister and Bhojnarine Bhola, owner of the Double Day Hotel.

Adriana Younge,11, was found dead in a pool at the Double Day Hotel one day after she was reported missing and a thorough search of the same pool showed no sign of her.
The minister is accusing the former mayor of falsely claiming he has business ties to the embattled businessman, and that he (the minister) directed an unprofessional media personnel to the Double Day Hotel in a bid to push a particular narrative regarding the child’s mysterious disappearance at the time.

Minister Indar is thus seeking the court’s intervention to have the former mayor or his agents refrain from uttering or publishing similar statements regarding any connections to the Double Day Hotel owner; that the false and defamatory content be removed from all social media platforms; and that the former mayor retract and apologise for the erroneous statements.
The minister “vehemently denies each and every allegation”, which he said was posted to Facebook by the former mayor’s page on 27 April 2025.

The lawsuit has described Minister Indar as a “reputable” individual who is a member of government, a Member of Parliament, a respected figure within the business community, a member of the Chartered Accountants Association, and a member of the People’s Progressive Party Central Committee.

Pandit Narine’s Facebook page is said to have 27,000 followers. The defamatory content, which also carried a photo of Minister Indar, reportedly received 97 reactions, 134 comments, and 62 shares.
The former mayor’s actions have thus caused significant damage to the minister’s reputation, as well as considerable distress and embarrassment to the state official, the document stated.
The lawsuit must be served on Pandit Narine within six months to remain valid. Attorneys-at-law Shania Cummings and Sase Gunraj are representing Minister Deodat Indar.
