Investigation launched: Explosive device thrown at Ruimveldt Police Outpost, gate destroyed

An alleged explosive device was thrown at the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost early this morning, causing significant damage to the facility’s southern gate. The incident occurred at approximately 00:40 hrs and is currently under investigation by law enforcement officials.

According to police reports, the outpost, a flat concrete structure located at the intersection of Vlissengen Square and East Ruimveldt Front Road, was the target of the attack. A female Police Constable on duty at the time reported hearing two loud explosions from the southern section of the compound. Upon inspection, she discovered that the metal gate at the back of the outpost had been completely blown off and was missing.

The constable immediately alerted her superiors, prompting a response from the Crime Scene Unit. Upon arrival, investigators observed that the southern gate had been hurled approximately six feet away from its original location and was visibly damaged.

Residents in the vicinity also reported hearing two explosions, followed by the sound of objects landing on their rooftops.

No injuries have been reported at this time, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police have launched a full investigation into the incident and are currently working to identify the individual(s) responsible.
