Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Brigadier Omar Khan, has visited Kaikan, an important border village situated along the Wenamu River in the Upper Mazaruni.
The visit is part of a series of visits to Guyana’s frontier regions. Kaikan’s strategic location near the national frontier makes it a critical area in the country’s defence strategy.
The Guyana Defence Force said Brigadier Khan’s direct presence underscored the seriousness of the engagement and the importance of high-level leadership interaction with both residents and soldiers on the ground.
During the visit, the Chief of Defence met with Katiuska Rodrigues, Toshao of Kaikan, to discuss ongoing concerns, development opportunities, and the collaborative role of the community in safeguarding Guyana’s borders.
The Guyana Defence Force was warmly welcomed by the community, who expressed appreciation for the force’s continued commitment to national security.
In a symbolic gesture of patriotism and solidarity, the GDF spearheaded an initiative to mount and distribute the Golden Arrowhead throughout the village, further reinforcing its dedication to national unity, pride, and protection.
Brigadier Khan and his team brought not just their presence, but reassurance to the frontier communities, reminding residents and students alike that they are never forgotten and never alone, the GDF said, pointing out that all Guyanese communities, regardless of location, are seen, valued, and protected.
