Albert R. Ramdin has officially assumed office as the new Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), pledging to lead with humility, vision, and a deep commitment to the people of the Americas.
In a statement issued on May 26, 2025, the veteran diplomat urged member states to recommit to the founding goals of the OAS and to work together toward building a more inclusive, responsive, and effective hemispheric institution.
“I step into this role not as an individual, but as a committed servant of the peoples of the Americas,” Ramdin said, highlighting the region’s diversity, resilience, and untapped potential. “Let us reimagine the calls and goals that created this Organization. This is a time that calls for unity and political will.”
He laid out a vision for a more dynamic OAS — one that delivers tangible results and amplifies the voices of governments, civil society, indigenous communities, the private sector, and youth.
Ramdin stressed the need for deeper collaboration, trust-building, and sustained engagement to address shared challenges across the hemisphere.
“Our strength lies in unity. Together we can face the challenges of our time with clarity and courage,” he said, emphasizing stronger ties not just among nations but between institutions and the people they serve.
While acknowledging the complex road ahead, Ramdin remained optimistic. He called for full support and active participation from all regional stakeholders.
“Real progress requires time, trust, and sustained effort… but I believe, deeply, that it is possible and that it is worth it.”
Ramdin, a seasoned OAS official, brings decades of experience in diplomacy, governance, and regional cooperation. He vowed to lead with transparency, accountability, and a focus on results.
“The OAS matters. And we will tell our story with confidence and clarity — showing our relevance through action, and our legitimacy through results,” he stated.
As the OAS embarks on a new chapter under his leadership, Ramdin invited all nations and citizens of the hemisphere to move forward together in pursuit of a more just, democratic, and united Americas.
