The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has confirmed the recovery of the body of Lance Corporal Stefon Tudor, who went missing during a routine riverine patrol on Thursday.
A release said Lance Corporal Tudor fell overboard in the vicinity of the Makapa Rapids along the Cuyuni River.
Immediate rescue efforts were made by his patrol team, followed by a sustained search operation led by GDF units with support from local partners.
His body was recovered earlier today, approximately 800 metres from the point where he fell, the GDF noted.
Lance Corporal Tudor was attached to 1 Infantry Battalion, and deployed at Location Eteringbang at the time of the incident. He served with professionalism, discipline, and commitment.
“The GDF extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues and continues to provide full support to his loved ones during this time of grief. The Force stands in solidarity with all ranks as we mourn the loss of a soldier who died in the line of duty. A Board of Inquiry has been established and has commenced its investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident,” the release concluded.
