The West Demerara Hospital has created a designated area to properly care for COVID-19 patients, following a reported rise in the number of cases it has had to treat.

On Saturday, Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony said health officials are on alert and are taking measures to tackle the spread of the new COVID-19 variant NB.1.8.1.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) last week reported cases in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, and has been monitoring the situation.

Some of the common symptoms of the virus include sore throat, fever, cough, and fatigue.
