Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were crowned IPL 2025 champions today after defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in a thrilling final in Ahmedabad. Chasing a target of 191, Punjab faltered under pressure as RCB’s bowlers held their nerve to seal the franchise’s first-ever title, ending an 18-year-long wait for glory.
The Royal Challengers’ bowlers delivered a brilliant performance to hold off the Punjab side. Despite crucial contributions from Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Josh Inglis, none of the Punjab Kings’ batsmen could withstand the pressure built by the RCB attack. Shashank Singh fought a lone battle as wickets tumbled around him.
Earlier, after being sent in to bat by Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted a total of 190. They lost Phil Salt early for 16 with the score at 18. Mayank Agarwal (24) and Virat Kohli (43) then consolidated the innings. Chahal made an immediate impact, removing Agarwal in his first over with the score at 56.
Captain Rajat Patidar (26) and Kohli added 40 runs for the third wicket, taking RCB to 87 for 2 at the halfway mark. Kohli was dismissed with the score at 131. When it appeared that RCB might fall short, Liam Livingstone (25) and Jitesh Sharma (24) injected momentum with a rapid 36-run stand in just two overs. Romario Shepherd added some lusty blows towards the end, scoring 17 off nine balls. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers for Punjab, taking three wickets and helping to restrict RCB to 190.
