Leaders in business are being urged to take risks and adapt to the changing business landscape in an effort to address challenges and become more successful.
The advice was dispensed during a panel discussion titled “Icon Conversations,” featuring Guyanese business developers and collaborators, hosted by the University of Guyana in collaboration with the Jamaica Stock Exchange today.
The discussion was part of “Money Week” 2025 activities, which commenced on Tuesday.
Today’s panelists included Executive Chairman of ActionINVEST Caribbean, Dr Vishnu Doerga; Co-Founder and Director of Herdmanston Lodge, Dee George; Chief Executive Officer/Director of Eureka Medical Laboratory, Dr William A. Boyle; and Partner and Specialist in Business, Economies, Finance and Public Policy at Ascention Business Services, Richard Rambarran.
The panelists encouraged business stakeholders to embrace the art of pivoting and shifting to adjust to growing and changing demands.
“Understand that the world is dynamic. Things are perennially and perpetually shifting. Never static, never remain the same… understand that what you are doing today, has the potential to become obsolete at some point in the future,” Rambarran advised.
Likewise, Dr Boyle gave an example of how his medical laboratory business adapted to utilising testing machines initially intended for COVID-19.
“During the COVID pandemic, it was massive… It’s now a mobile lab up there.”
Meanwhile, George, in sharing her experiences, advised that business leaders continue to build and pivot in uncomfortable situations, even when the business landscape appears unchanging.
“A few years ago… we did not know what was on the horizon, and a gentleman that worked with Exxon at the time said, ‘just build, continue to expand,’” she shared.
Additionally, Doerga urged businessmen and women to pay attention to leading trends in business demands.
“None of us knew that we wanted AI… the preferences are changing,” he said.
The “Money Week” initiative, which aims to promote financial intelligence among citizens, is being hosted under the theme, “Building your financial future, dollar by dollar.”
The three-day event will allow citizens to interact with some leading financial experts in the areas of financial planning, investments, and business development.
Participants will also get the opportunity to learn about developments in digital finance, the way people interact with financial services online, and the increasing use of artificial intelligence.
