KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will commence twice-weekly nonstop flights from Georgetown to Amsterdam, Netherlands, today. This marks a new milestone for Guyana as the country extends its global presence into the European market.
KLM officially launched its service in Guyana Tuesday night at the Cara Lodge Hotel in Georgetown.

Among the distinguished guests and invitees was Head of State President Irfaan Ali, who offered his warm welcome to the Dutch carrier. He told the gathering that KLM’s entry into the Guyanese market is more than just a business move, but an endorsement of the country’s strengthening economy.
“We don’t see KLM as an investor. We see KLM as a partner with Guyana and it is our duty to help you, (KLM) make your stay here successful. It is our duty to ensure that we create policies and programmes and we pursue policies and programmes and investment that will make your investment here sustainable and profitable.”

The President pointed out that the additional flights will open new economic doors for Guyana, allowing not only the movement of cargo but creating opportunities for connectivity. He said the new service is an expression of confidence in the country, the celebration of Guyana’s ascension as a premier destination and transit point in the global aviation sector.
“Your presence is more than an endorsement of our growing economy. It is a vote of confidence in our stability, our infrastructure and vision for the future,” the President stated.
KLM’s Regional Manager, Dirk Buitelaar, in his remarks, said that flights to the Guyanese route mark a proud and historical moment for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as the company recognises the ambition of this vibrant and promising South American nation.

“The launch of the flight is more than just a new destination in the global network of Air France and KLM, it’s a symbol of a connection between Europe and South America, between the Netherlands and Guyana, between commerce and culture and most importantly, between people,” he noted.
Given Guyana’s growing global significance and its remarkable growth in energy, ecotourism, and infrastructure, the manager said the company is proud to bridge the country for business, tourism, and diplomatic opportunities. He said the commitment to the route is not just about flying aircraft to two cities, but stimulating economies and bringing nations closer together in order to grow.

KLM flights will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays using its Airbus A330-200 with approximately 268 seats, including Business and Economy Comfort seating. The nonstop flight from Georgetown to Amsterdam International Airport will connect customers to 21 destinations in the United Kingdom and 142 additional destinations beyond Amsterdam.
