Christopher Rohaman, a 31-year-old resident of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, died in an early Saturday morning accident at the intersection of Camp Street and Carifesta Avenue, near the Everest Cricket Ground.
Police reported that the accident occurred at around 00:20 hrs and involved motor car PAB 5434, which was owned and driven by Rohaman.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was travelling north along the western drive lane of Camp Street at a high rate of speed. As it approached the Carifesta Avenue intersection, the driver reportedly lost control, causing the car to collide with a light pole on the western side of the roadway before ending up in a nearby trench several feet away.
Rohaman was pinned inside the wreckage and sustained multiple injuries. Emergency Medical Technicians from ambulance PAJ 1054 responded to the scene, extracted him from the vehicle in an unconscious condition, and transported him to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit. He was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending doctor.
His body is currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations are ongoing.
