Leader of the Guyana Action Party (GAP) and former minister in the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) government, Sydney Allicock, has endorsed President Dr Irfaan Ali for a second term in office.
Allicock made the announcement during an interview on the sidelines of the launch of Orinduik Marine Services at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, today.
He noted that if President Ali is given the chance to continue, much more can be achieved, as he called for national unity.
Recently, People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Member of Parliament Geeta Chandan-Edmond also gave an unequivocal endorsement of President Ali for a second term during her address in the National Assembly.
The endorsements from Allicock and Chandan-Edmond add to a growing list of political figures — including other PNCR members — who have declared support for the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) ahead of the 1 September General and Regional Elections.
These include Region Four Vice Chairman Samuel Sandy and Region Four Chairman Daniel Seeram (both from the PNCR), Liberty and Justice Party (LJP) Leader Lenox Shuman, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Asha Kissoon of The New Movement, attorney-at-law Selwin Peters, and Shazaam Ally, a founding member of The Citizenship Initiative (TCI).
