A 35-year-old motorcyclist died on Wednesday evening in a fatal collision along the Dun Robin Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.

The deceased, Tameshwar Sukhcharan of Albion, Berbice, was pronounced dead on arrival at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after being struck by a pick-up while riding his motorcycle around 17:40 hrs on June 11, 2025.

According to police, the accident involved motor pick-up GAK 1990, driven by 30-year-old Andrew Johnson of Lamaha Park, Georgetown, motorcyclist Sukhcharan and a parked motor lorry (GLL 9958) owned by a 47-year-old man of Yakusari, Bush Lot.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Johnson was reportedly speeding eastward along the roadway when he attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided with Sukhcharan, who was travelling in the opposite direction on his motorcycle. The impact flung Sukhcharan into a nearby trench, where he sustained severe head and bodily injuries.

The pick-up then crashed into the parked lorry on the southern parapet.

Public-spirited citizens pulled Sukhcharan from the trench in an unconscious state and rushed him to the hospital, where a doctor confirmed his death.

Johnson, who sustained a fractured femur and abrasions, was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital. His condition is listed as stable.

Sukhcharan’s body is currently at the Arokium Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is pending.

Police investigations are ongoing.
