The Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMRSC) has formally endorsed President Irfaan Ali for a second term.
The club in a statement highlighted the government’s direct support in transforming the South Dakota Circuit. Under President Ali’s leadership, the facility was expanded to 1.6 miles in length and upgraded to accommodate regional and international competitions. Access roads have also been resurfaced, and construction is ongoing on a new spectator mound to enhance the fan experience.
The club credited the administration’s “extraordinary commitment” to developing motorsport in phases, describing it as one of the most expensive sporting disciplines to grow.
The GMRSC said the upgrades reflect a long-term vision for the sport and a broader national strategy that positions sport as a driver of economic and social progress. Over the past five years, more than $21.6 billion has been allocated to sports across Guyana.
“President Ali’s government has fulfilled campaign promises and demonstrated a long-term vision for motorsport growth,” the Club stated.
President Ali has frequently attended major racing events and has publicly spoken about the role of sports in economic development—moves seen as signalling sustained governmental support for athletic disciplines.
The endorsement comes as political parties prepare for the 2025 General and Regional Elections. The GMRSC expressed confidence that under a continued Ali presidency, Guyana’s sporting community will benefit from further opportunities and expansion.
