According to a police release, the incident involved motorcycle CP 2700, which was being driven by Hughes, with 24-year-old Marashia Dehart of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, as the pillion rider, and an unbranded cow.

As a result of the collision, both Hughes and Dehart were thrown onto the roadway and sustained injuries. They were picked up by public-spirited citizens and transported to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
