The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has assured the diplomatic community that it is adequately prepared to deliver free, fair, credible and transparent elections.
At a meeting on Thursday, GECOM officials engaged the heads of diplomatic missions from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to discuss the commission’s state of readiness.
GECOM Chairperson Justice (ret’d) Claudette Singh welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the technical support provided through both individual and joint efforts. She said the assistance has strengthened the commission’s commitment to meeting international standards in the conduct of the polls.
Justice Singh also acknowledged the important role of international observers and noted the value of their independent assessments of the electoral process and its outcome.
Deputy Chief Election Officer Aneal Giddings provided a detailed update on operational activities and election preparedness.
The meeting included an interactive session, during which diplomats sought and received clarification on several key issues.
