A pedal cyclist died this afternoon after being struck by a car on the Blankenburg Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
Police said the accident occurred at about 12:45 hrs and involved motorcar PNN 289, driven by 28-year-old Ishmile Alli of Parika, East Bank Essequibo. The cyclist, whose name, age, and address remain unknown, reportedly rode across the road from south to north into the path of the eastbound vehicle.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he died at about 15:25 hrs while receiving treatment. The body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
Further investigations are under way.
