A 64-year-old man was killed early Wednesday after his car collided with a lorry at the intersection of Heroes Highway and Mocha Access Road on the East Bank Demerara, police said.
Charles Richards of Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, died at the scene after his car failed to stop at a sign and was struck by a southbound lorry around 5:30 am, according to investigators.
The driver of the lorry, 29-year-old Arif Haniff of Cove and John, East Coast Demerara, was unharmed. He was given a breathalyser test, which showed no trace of alcohol, and remains in police custody assisting with the investigation.
Richards’ body was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for storage pending a post-mortem examination.
