Police in Guyana are investigating the killing of Junior Williams, a 36-year-old miner, who was fatally chopped during an attempted robbery at Issano Landing in the Middle Mazaruni River early Saturday.
Williams, of Pamela Road, Mahdia, was attacked around 5 am by two men while drinking at the 14 Miles Issano Landing, police said. He initially repelled the assault with a knife, but the suspects returned armed with a cutlass and dealt him multiple chops before fleeing.
A resident found Williams injured and alerted others. He was taken to the Mahdia District Hospital and pronounced dead at 10:22 am by a doctor. Police reported severe wounds to his hand and shoulder.
One suspect has been arrested and is assisting investigators. Williams’ body is at the Mahdia District Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
