Skeldon, a bustling town in Region Six, is poised for a new chapter of growth and opportunity. Once heavily reliant on the Skeldon Sugar Estate, the town faced significant challenges following the estate’s closure under the previous administration.
Today, hope is returning with the announcement of a comprehensive economic revival plan.
President Irfaan Ali shared the news during his address at the commissioning of the state-of-the-art Number 75 Hospital in Region Six.
“Skeldon has just completed a comprehensive economic revival plan that will invest with farmers, business owners, and families, in Corentyne, especially in Skeldon,” President Ali said.
“The government will co-invest with you to expand and diversify the economy, create jobs, and generate new business opportunities. This plan has been completed and will be implemented within the next six months.”
The President highlighted that the plan will bring a “new wave of investment, business opportunities, and business development” to Skeldon and the wider Corentyne region.
With implementation set to begin within months, the people of Skeldon can look forward to a future where families, farmers, and businesses alike benefit from renewed opportunities and strengthened economic foundations.
