Election Day in Region Two unfolded in an atmosphere of calm and order, with residents turning out steadily to cast their ballots at 158 polling stations across the district. Of the 42,596 registered voters, many first-time and elderly voters made their presence felt, highlighting the importance of both youthful enthusiasm and lifelong dedication to the democratic process.
Polling opened promptly at 06:00 hrs after ballot boxes were delivered from as early as 03:00 hrs. Police ranks were deployed at every location, ensuring security, while party agents assisted voters in finding their names on the lists. By midday, political representatives described turnout as favourable, with the process moving smoothly across communities.
Young electors across Region Two expressed pride in exercising their right to vote for the first time. Amesha Nar described the process as “smooth and easy,” while Marie Narine of Supenaam said she arrived at her station promptly at 06:00 hrs to ensure she “didn’t miss the boat”. Marie Narine confirmed she carefully checked her name before joining the line and casting her ballot.
At Charity, first-time voter Edon Singh, who lives with disabilities, overcame personal challenges to make his mark on Election Day. Supported by his foster mother, Pastor Oprah, Singh described the process as simple and shared his happiness at being able to vote for the party he believes in.
Elderly residents across the district also braved challenges to participate in the democratic process.
Across Supenaam, Anna Regina, Good Hope-Pomona, Evergreen-Paradise, and Charity, polling was described as calm, orderly, and steady. Voters patiently waited their turn, many arriving early in the morning before reporting to work. By midday, most elderly voters had already participated, and lines moved efficiently with no major delays reported.
In the Pomeroon both Upper and Lower River many residents were away in the interior and unable to return in time. Still, the overall atmosphere across Region Two was one of peace and civic pride.
The participation of both the young and elderly underscored the significance of Election Day in Region Two. While first-time voters brought fresh enthusiasm, the determination of the elderly and differently-abled to cast their ballots highlighted a shared commitment to democracy.
