The Bar Association of Guyana has urged citizens to remain calm and peaceful as the tabulation of results from the September 1 general and regional elections continues.
“We would like to remind members of the public that GECOM is the only body with the lawful authority to declare the results of the General and Regional Elections held on September 1, 2025,” the Association said in a statement.
Accredited by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) as a local observer, the Association deployed members across the country to monitor voting. Observers were stationed at more than 500 polling stations in over 105 polling places across Essequibo, Demerara and Berbice.
In its preliminary findings, the Bar said the process was largely peaceful and transparent. Its team witnessed the full cycle of Election Day activities — from preparations and the opening of polls to voting, closing and counting. Members found the exercise to be generally free, fair and transparent.
The Association also commended the professionalism of GECOM staff, noting that many worked under challenging circumstances to ensure a smooth process.
