A 41-year-old labourer, Mohamed Shazaud Wahab of Lot 16 Wallers Delight, West Coast Demerara, died on Sunday night in a hit-and-run accident on the Ruimzeight Public Road.
Police said the fatal crash occurred around 21:15 hrs when Wahab, who was riding his bicycle alongside his brother Ahmad, was struck by a white minibus travelling east along the northern carriageway at a fast rate. The driver’s identity and the vehicle’s registration number remain unknown.
According to Ahmad, he was riding closer to the white line while his brother was positioned more to the center of the roadway when the minibus collided with Wahab, throwing him to the ground.
Emergency Medical Technicians rushed the injured man to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was taken to Ezekiel Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
