Kimberly Singh, 11, died on Sunday in a tragic accident involving a Canter vehicle driven by her father on the access road at Enmore New Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.
Police reported that the incident occurred around 12:00 hrs when Kimberly, along with her mother and three siblings, were passengers in the vehicle. The Canter (GAH 1139), owned by Takechand Rooplall of Clonbrook, ECD, had been parked at Hope West, Enmore, at the residence of 29-year-old Rieaad Naraine. Singh, 40, allegedly took the vehicle after earlier requesting to borrow it for a drive.
Investigators said Singh was proceeding south at a fast rate when he lost control, causing the vehicle to plunge into a trench. All occupants sustained injuries and were rushed to the Enmore Regional Hospital by public-spirited citizens. Kimberly was pronounced dead on arrival at 14:09 hrs.
Her body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
