Land earmarked for data centre, fertiliser and glass plants

An updated map outlining existing and proposed energy infrastructure at the Wales Industrial Zone has been prepared, with land set aside for a data centre, an ammonia/urea plant and a glass factory, President Dr Irfaan Ali was said.

Ali met with Winston Brassington, head of the Gas-to-Energy (GTE) Task Force, and received updates on several aspects of the project.

For Phase I, covering the 300 MW combined-cycle plant and NGL facilities being executed by Lindsayca Guyana Inc., officials said the first gas turbine foundation will be poured on Tuesday night, September 9. More than 300 people are employed on the project, with another 100 to be added within 30 days as the remaining turbine foundations are completed.

On Phase II, which envisions a second 300 MW plant and NGL facility, Ali was told that seven submissions have been received and talks are under way to finalise the pre-qualified firms before moving to EPC and financing.

In addition, 20 MCFD of gas has been earmarked for a fertiliser plant capable of producing 300 tonnes per year of urea, with discussions to be advanced with both international and local firms.
