Tourism, Industry and Commerce Minister Oneidge Walrond is expected to be appointed Minister of Home Affairs as President Irfaan Ali prepares to reshuffle his Cabinet, people familiar with the matter said.
Walrond is among several ministers who will return to government, while the new Cabinet is expected to include a number of first-time appointees.
Vikash Ramkissoon, Sase Gunraj, Stephen Jacobs and Zulfikar Ally are likely to take up portfolios in the coming days, the sources said.
Gunraj, an attorney and elections commissioner, is tipped for the Ministry of Labour. Jacobs, a former national cricketer, is expected to head the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. Ally, Guyana’s ambassador to Mexico and former AmCham president, is set to lead the Ministry of Public Service. Ramkissoon, a former educator, is also expected to be given a portfolio.
