Police in Region Six are investigating the brutal killing of a 36-year-old woman at Grant Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice, on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Alisha Narine, a domestic worker of East Indian descent employed at a sawmill in the community.
Reports indicate that at around 09:50 hrs on 14 September 2025, Narine and her reputed husband, Ram Singh, known as “Singh,” of Tain/Jones Settlement, Corentyne, became engaged in a heated argument at the sawmill premises. Shortly afterwards, Narine’s body was discovered in the yard with multiple chop wounds.
Public-spirited persons raised the alarm, and police ranks were summoned to the scene.
Singh was subsequently arrested and is currently in custody assisting investigators. Police have since launched a full investigation into the incident.
Narine’s body was taken to a nearby mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted in the coming days.
