For years, Orlene Lewis, a mother and grandmother from the Charity Squatting Area, dreamed of owning a safe and stable home for her family. On Friday, that dream came true when she received the keys to her new house.

The home was constructed under the Men on Mission initiative, led by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and was handed over by Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Madanlall Ricky Ramraj. The project was completed through the support and partnership of contractor Vijay Persaud and Sons.

An emotional Lewis described the moment as “a dream come true,” noting that the home represents not just a roof over her family’s head, but a fresh start and a source of stability for the next generation.

Minister Ramraj emphasised that the initiative goes beyond construction. “This is about restoring dignity, uplifting families, and strengthening communities,” he said, urging Lewis to take good care of her new home.

Grateful for the support, Lewis expressed her appreciation: “I am very thankful. I requested the home, and it was fulfilled. I want to thank everyone for making this happen.”
