A 21-year-old tourist guide, John Elliot of Surama Village, North Rupununi, was allegedly stabbed to death early Sunday morning during an Amerindian Heritage celebration at Annai Village, Region Nine.
Police reports indicate the incident occurred at about 01:30hrs during a confrontation involving three male suspects. Elliot, who worked at Atta Lodge, succumbed to stab wounds sustained to his chest and right rib area.
The main suspect is a 16-year-old school drop-out (name withheld), who, along with 20-year-old Ronaldo Williams and his brother, 18-year-old Orlando Williams, all from Annai Village, is implicated in the attack.
The incident was witnessed by a female police officer attending the celebration, who identified the 16-year-old as the person who allegedly stabbed Elliot and provided a detailed statement to investigators.
The 16-year-old suspect was later found at the home of the two other suspects and taken into custody at the Annai Police Station. He denied involvement in the stabbing, claiming Orlando Williams was the one responsible.
