A total of 92 participants, most of them women, have graduated from specialised training programmes aimed at preparing them for Guyana’s growing service industry.
The training was offered by Humanitarian Mission Guyana Incorporated, a Port Mourant-based non-profit, and covered areas such as nail and makeup artistry, decorative cake design, and information technology. The organisation focuses on equipping communities with practical skills to build sustainable livelihoods.
Delivering the feature address at Saturday’s graduation ceremony, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha underscored the importance of technical education.
“We have seen an upsurge in technical education, ensuring people are given more opportunities in life. In a world rushing towards artificial intelligence, human touch and creativity matter more than ever. A computer cannot style hair without soul, decorate a cake with love, or match the perfect foundation shade. Even in IT, it is human beings who repair and support the systems we rely on.”
“The training provides not only a pathway to personal growth but also a chance for participants to contribute meaningfully to Guyana’s development,” the minister added.
Founder and Head of the Mission, Suresh Sugrim, encouraged the graduates to embrace their future with confidence.
“Step forward boldly, knowing that you carry within you the power to lead, to uplift, and to transform. Congratulations, the class of September 2025,” he said.
Humanitarian Mission Guyana says initiatives like these are aimed at breaking cycles of poverty and creating lasting opportunities, enabling communities across the country to thrive through education, skill-building and practical empowerment.
