A 17-year-old driver, Adrian Welch of Kwakwani Park, died on Friday morning following a collision between his motor car and a lorry on Mines Road, Kwakwani, Upper Berbice River.
The fatal crash occurred at about 11:35 hrs and involved motor lorry GAD 5603 with trailer TZZ 9525, driven by 26-year-old Teyon Rogers of Kwakwani, and motor car PPP 449, driven by Welch (now deceased).
Enquiries disclosed that the lorry with a trailer was proceeding west along the southern side of Mines Road, while the car, which was heading east along the northern side, collided with the rear wheel of the lorry.
As a result of the collision, both vehicles were damaged, and the car ended up on the northern grass parapet. Welch was removed from the vehicle in an unconscious condition by public-spirited persons and taken to the Kwakwani Hospital, where he was seen and examined by Dr. Thomas, who pronounced him dead on arrival.
The lorry driver is in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
