Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred around 00:20 hrs today, Tuesday, September 30, 2025, on the Mon Repos Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
The accident involved a white motor car, PAC 9262, driven by a 26-year-old Police Lance Corporal stationed at the Ogle Police Outpost, and a male pedestrian known only as “Soath.” His full name, age, and address have not yet been confirmed.
According to police, the vehicle was heading west along the northern drive lane of the southern carriageway when the pedestrian reportedly ran from south to north into its path.
The left front of the vehicle struck the pedestrian, who fell onto the road and sustained injuries.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken by ambulance to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he later died.
The body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyser test conducted on the driver showed no trace of alcohol.
The Lance Corporal is currently under close arrest as investigations continue.
