Helmet violations top list as GPF records 2,733 traffic offences in the past week

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) Traffic Department has recorded 2,733 traffic-related offences nationwide for the week of September 21 to September 27, 2025, highlighting ongoing challenges with road safety compliance.

Helmet-related offences were among the most common, with 345 cases reported, reflecting a persistent disregard for safety among motorcyclists and pillion riders.

Other major violations included speeding (202 cases), tinted vehicles (210), seatbelt breaches (97), driving under the influence (24), failure to wear a helmet (271), carrying a pillion rider without a helmet (74), unlighted vehicles (83 combined for front and rear), and breach of prescribed fitness conditions (89).

While 1,057 cases fell directly under these categories, additional enforcement activities contributed to the overall weekly total of 2,733 offences.

The figures underscore the need for both strict enforcement and continued public education to address unsafe driving practices and improve road safety across the country.
