President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced that 15 new dialysis units will be established across Guyana by the end of 2025, significantly expanding access to life-saving treatment for patients with kidney failure.
Currently, the government supports patients requiring dialysis through a $600,000 grant programme. However, national consultations revealed a growing demand for more public dialysis facilities to meet the needs of patients in different regions.
The new units will be located in Regions Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, and Ten, and will complement dialysis stations already set up at six newly built regional hospitals.
President Ali said the move reflects his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery nationwide.
“I think that is a tremendous improvement we are advancing in the early days of our Government,” he stated.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Guyana’s health sector, with a focus on decentralising critical services and ensuring equitable access to treatment across the country.
