President Dr. Irfaan Ali has urged all sectors of society to collaborate in using Guyana’s oil wealth to build a sustainable and equitable future for the nation.
Speaking at the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (GCCI) Energy Insights Breakfast, the President called on government, business leaders, civil society, and citizens to work together to ensure that economic growth benefits all Guyanese.
“Let us commit—the Government, private sector, civil society, and citizens alike—to ensuring that when history judges us, it does not say that Guyana had oil. Let it say that Guyana had vision, that Guyana had courage, and that Guyana had the wisdom to power a sustainable future for all,” he said.
President Ali stressed that strategic use of today’s oil revenues can lay the foundation for long-term prosperity, transforming natural resource wealth into opportunity, equity, and hope for all citizens.
Guyana’s oil sector, which has seen significant growth since 2019, has already provided revenues to fund infrastructure, social services, and community projects. The President emphasized that these resources must be managed responsibly and inclusively to ensure that every community, including hinterland and rural areas, benefits from the country’s energy boom.
This call to action reflects the government’s broader commitment to sustainable development, social equity, and inclusive economic growth, positioning Guyana to leverage its oil wealth for the long-term well-being of all its citizens.
